Well, I’ve certainly been less than full fledged motivated lately. Just can’t seem to get my motivation on the way I use to and it’s beginning to show in my weight.

My wife has suggested we search for a weight loss group to join. A good idea. We know a few people in Weight Watchers, but we wanted something different.

My wife used to be a member of TOPS years ago. We looked them up on the web at www.tops.org. Wow! They had several groups within just a few miles of us and we set up an appointment for this coming Wed. morning. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.

I think anyone serious about losing weight should be part of some type of weight loss group. At the very least, you should have an accountability partner. These people will understand where you’re at and what you’ve been going through. Many of them have either been there their self or are currently going through the same thing.

For me, just knowing that I need to show results every week is a very powerful motivation. I don’t want to be the one with the least amount of weight loss at weigh in. These groups aren’t there to beat you up if you don’t lose weight or even gain some. I’ve found that my competitive spirit kicks in and I want to do good. I want to be near the top of the class if not at the very top! I’ve know people who swear up and down they have no competitive spirit become motivated to lose weight just by joining a group. Whether it’s the pressure of weighing in around other people (I understand that the weigh in is optional with most groups as are your weight) or just the fact that you’re around people that understand your situation, these groups are helpful to anyone.

I was actually amazed at the amount of nutritional information I picked up earlier this year when I was a member of our little Church group. It certainly helped my wife and I in our food choices. Everyone at these groups seem to have one killer recipe or two.

I’m looking forward to losing the big numbers again (for me, anything 5lbs or over is a good number at my stage.) My wife has set a goal of 2lbs per week, which is good for her.

I’ll keep you updated on how we do, meanwhile, if you’re not a member of a group, please, PLEASE consider it and go sit in on a few.
