I don’t know about the rest of you, but weekends are the toughest for weight loss as far as I’m concerned.

It’s normally a time of a big breakfast on Saturday morning and at least one cookout either Saturday or Sunday.

I’ve fought long and hard with the weekends. It’s been a challenge to stay with my current diet plan, but I’ve managed, well sometimes.

I don’t usually workout on the weekends. At least not in my workout room/Garage. I’m usually out doing yard work or other activities.

No my typical Saturday morning breakfast may just be 1 pancake and a few slices of Turkey bacon with a glass of ice cold water or coffee. This is still a nice break of the weekday breakfasts.

I’ve had to develop new grilling recipes for my cookouts. I’ve learned that many vegetables can be thrown on the grill and they come out tasting pretty darn good. I use lean meats also. Most will be extra lean beef or chicken. I have tried Turkey and it has come out surprisingly good.

I don’t marinade or otherwise ad fat to my cookouts. I’m starting to use more and more dry spices in my cooking to try and replace the salt and fat. If I must use oil, then it’s Extra Virgin Olive oil. Coating your chicken or turkey with olive oil and then ad my spices. I actually prefer this new way of cooking over some of my old methods.

As for the Olive Oil, I can hear some of you screaming at me now. But I’d rather trade the health benefits of Oliive Oil over the few fat grams it contains. It’s way better for you than shortning or the fat ladden other oils on the shelf. Besides, I’m talking less than a teaspoon here.

You can also coat (I use a pastry brush) your vegatables such as asparagus with a little Olive oil and then sprinkle on your seasoning. They are tremendous on the grill when done in this fashion.

So don’t fret if your family are big eaters on the weekend. Adjust the way you cook and watch your portions and you’ll do well.
