Finally, after much waiting and hand wringing, we got to see the Season 4 contestants and the new host in the premier of the Biggest Loser - Season 4.
To me, it looks like this season of The Biggest Loser could shape up to be one of the best!
The show started off by taking a look at the years past and introducing the Season 4 contestants. We also got to meet the new host of The Biggest Loser, Alison Sweeney. She replaced Caroline Rhea. Sources say that Rhea left to ‘pursue other interest’ which usually means “your fired” in Hollywood jargon.
Bob Harper and Kim Lyons are also back. Also, Season 4 saw the return of Jillian Michaels as the trainer of the Super Secret “Black Team”.
The show got kicked off after the group hiked up a small hill in the desert to meet Alison. Alison and the group chit-chatted for a while then she explained to them that 6 would not be joining the other 12 at The Biggest Loser Campus. She explained to them that Bob and Kim would be parachuting to a spot in the desert and that the group had to make their way down the hill to where Bob and Kim were.
Alison went on to say that the first one to arrive at the trainers would be the new Team captains. The new team captains would then choose their team. The last 6 to be chosen “would be sent home”. Of course, since we watched the previews and read stories on the Internet about Season 4 of The Biggest Loser, we knew that they wouldn’t be going home, but trained by Jillian.
Well, they huffed and puffed their way down to Bob and Kim. Amazingly, Jerry, the 62 year old contestant, was the first to reach Bob, behind him, Phil.
One by one the contestants dragged their out-of-breath-lungs-on-fire carcasses into the staging area with Bob and Kim and were standing around drinking water when someone realized that Amy was still making her way to the group.
Like good sports they were, the group went out and took Amy water and walked with her to the finish line. Little did anyone realize that this would be the way things were to come.
The group then met up at the Last Chance Diner and the Team Captains got to meet and greet everyone. Then they went outside and chose teams.
The 6 that were left after the end of choosing teams were crushed because they were not picked, and rightfully so. They watched the busses pull out with the Red and Blue teams on board and they kinda stood around in disbelief, some cried, some were angry.
Then Jillian Michaels shows up on a motorcycle and everyone’s spirit soars. I would imagine it’d be like watching the Calvary ride in and saving your hide from the Savages!
Jillian explains to them that they will be the Secret black Team of The Biggest Loser.
The rest of the show is showing the Teams working out with their trainers and learning about nutrition. My favorite quote of the show came when Jerry told Bob he needed to learn what “protein” was. Bob replied “If it had a Mother, it’s protein.” Funny stuff!
During one of the workouts, Amy admits to Kim that she want’s to go home. Kim makes a big deal about it, and rightfully so. Obviously this doesn’t sit well with the other Red Team members. You get the feel that Amy sealed her fate right then and there.
We get to see the Red and Blue Teams make it to weigh in, but not the Black Team. The Black Team reunites with the other Team members in 2 weeks time. I’m not sure how they ‘reunite’ and how they track their weight loss. I’m sure they had to have weighed in at some point??
Anyway, there were some big, big numbers put up the first week! Jerry, the old man, bested everyone by posting a 31 lb weight loss! That’s just amazing!
That helped the Blue Team defeat the Red Team in the weigh in and sent the Red Team to the Elimination.
During the time preceding the Elimination, everyone kinda dissed Amy for her attitude. She tried to reassure them that she’d give 100% from there on out, but no one was buying it and at the Elimination, she was voted off. No surprise there.
As a Texan, I have to admit that the last two seasons, our state hasn’t had very good representatives! Last year, Tiffany was voted off in Week 2 the competition and from the accounts on The Biggest Loser homepage, she didn’t drop too many pounds at home. I believe by the time that the Season 3 Finale of The Biggest Loser rolled around, she’d only lost about 30 lbs.
There was quite a bit of buzz around Houston for Amy. Local message boards were buzzing about helping her get onto the show and about how bad she needed to be on the show, etc.
I’m glad to see that she continued with the workouts once she got back home. It would have been a shame to see her give up. The show said she’d lost another 65 pounds after returning home!
I have the TiVo set for this upcoming week, it will be a good one as the Red and Blue Teams get to meet the Black Team! Stay tuned for updates! If you haven’t done it yet, sign up for the RSS feeds so you’ll be contacted as soon as I post upadates!
